Q: My emoji looks fine on my device, but why do they look different on my friend’s phone?

A: This can happen for a few different reasons.

      • The keyboard uses the standard Android font. Depending on what version of Android your device is running and what app you are using, the look and color of the emoji will be impacted.

      • The type of device your friend has is different than yours. Your friend’s device could be running a different OS version.

Q: Why are my emojis different from other apps or iOS?

Q: Why do emojis take up more than one character?

A: This issue only affects SMS. When sending a standard SMS, an emoji takes up more than one character. This is related to the way the character is coded. If you are seeing your characters per SMS decreasing when using an emoji, it’s because SMS only has a 140 bytes limit.

Q: Why are my emojis black and white?

A: The keyboard uses the standard Android font. Depending on what version of Android your device is running and what app you are using, the look and color of the emoji will be impacted. Currently, emojis are only supported by Jellybean and KitKat (Android 4.1 and higher). In Android 4.1, most emoji system fonts are black and white. Android 4.2 and higher versions of Android have a color system emoji font.
